Calyx - meaning

The inspiration for my company name had its foundation in my early studies of botany (my favorite topic during my University science degree).  I was fascinated by the intricate form and design of plants as this image of one of my old botanical illustrations shows...

I felt that the calyx (calyx n: (botany) the whorl of sepals of a flower collectively forming the outer floral envelope or layer of the perianth enclosing and supporting the developing bud; usually green) was a relevant metaphor for my approach to design and work as a landscape architect and ecologist.

Similar to the protective leaves encasing a developing bud, Calyx provides a sensitive and protective support to ensure appropriate, resilient and beautiful designs.

Image of an agapanthus flower just starting to emerge from it's protective calyx.  What beauty there is in the details of plant life.
